Magic Necklace
I am a bit of a romantic. Growing up I always kept journals and had special objects that I thought held magic powers. Perhaps it comes from being a musical theater junkie where everything is a bit more sentimental?
Inspired by my childhood love for Annie I always wanted a unique locket with pictures of my most cherished ones to wear. In the years immediately after my brothers death I wore a locket (not vintage, actually bought at Bloomingdales) with his picture in it. It brought me great comfort those first few impossible years, feeling him close to me each day. Somewhere along the way I lost that locket in one of my many moves, and have been searching for a replacement since.
Recently I found the magical vintage locket of my dreams thanks to Luna and Stella. My stars and moon locket is one of a kind and exactly what I had been searching for. This time I put pictures of my babies in it-they are the most important thing in y world and having them always close to my heart makes me feel calm, centered and comforted. As soon as I put the pictures of Hermione and Portia inside the locket felt somehow magical to me. Perhaps it knows how much love it hold inside. I wear it everyday and feel quite naked when I forget to put it on.
Over the past few weeks Hermione has been going on many Kindergarten playgroup interviews in order to find her a schools for next year. This process can be a bit daunting and scary for a sometimes shy 4.5 year old. Whenever Hermione feels nervous before a school playgroup I give her my "magic locket" to wear and all of a sudden her nerves melt away. Wearing something special of mine makes her feel brave and safe. Portia is also constantly asking me to open up my locket so she can see the pictures of "MiMi" inside.
Knowing how much Hermione loves my locket I already have a special one picked out for her for Christmas. Her's is a heart just like Annie's. I hope she get's the reference. Even if she doesn't I know her locket will bring her just as much magic as mine brings me!
